About Ruth Bryant, LCSW

I believe therapy is about more than solving problems — it’s about having a space where you feel deeply understood, challenged, and supported as you work toward lasting change. With more than a decade of experience in the field and a long-term interest in my own personal growth, I consider it a privilege to accompany you in this courageous endeavor of self-exploration.

Whatever brings you here, I offer a grounded, compassionate presence and an engaged relational style. As a therapist, I strive to listen closely, reflect honestly, and work collaboratively with you.

My Background and Involvements
I have been practicing in Nashville since 2014, and my private practice is conveniently located in Green Hills. I have also worked in group practice, community mental health, and in treatment center settings. In addition to my private practice, I have been an adjunct faculty member at The College of Traditional Midwifery since 2018 where I teach on grief and loss, trauma, and perinatal mental health.

I have advanced training in several areas which you can read more about here. I am trained and certified as a supervisor for social workers pursuing licensure, and I am also available for supervision and consultation around my areas of speciality with other professionals in the field.

I am active within my local professional organizations and am a member of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW.) In addition, I am a founding board member of the Nashville Group Psychotherapy Society (NGPS,) an affiliate of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) of which I am also a member.

I received a Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University in Public Relations in 2002 and a Master of Science in Social Work from The University of Tennessee in 2014. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) which means, in part, that my training was rooted in a “person-in-environment” perspective. This perspective respects each person’s unique life experiences as an important part of what has shaped them alongside their personal traits and genetics. Often what limits us as adults and ultimately brings us to therapy is the very thing that actually helped us to survive or adapt to our environment when we were young. I value this holistic viewpoint and bring it with me to each client I have the privilege to treat.

My first career was in public relations and healthcare marketing, and the birth of my first child led me be trained and certified as a Birth Doula by DONA International in 2007. My growing interest in the population I was serving is ultimately what led me to go back to school to pursue being a therapist in 2010.

Outside the Office
In my free time, I enjoy walking my dog in the woods most days, hosting family and friends in our home, engaging in creative pursuits as often as I can, planning travel, and spending time with my two teenage children and my spouse of 20 years, Zach, who is also a colleague and my group therapy co-leader (www.zachbryant.com.)
